The Solar Electric Power Association is eliminating the words "solar" and "association" from its title as it seeks to represent a wider range of clean energy technologies.
SEPA will become the Smart Electric Power Alliance on April 11. The new name comes only a few months after the $5 million-revenue association absorbed the Association for Demand Response and Smart Grid.
"Utility integration and deployment of solar continues to be a core focus of this organization," SEPA CEO Julia Hamm said. "But adding high volumes of solar to our distribution and transmission grids—while providing customers with clean, affordable and reliable power—also means integrating a range of fast-changing and increasingly sophisticated technologies and resources."
SEPA plans to roll out a new logo and website in coming months. The group will also offer an expanded research agenda and educational events that reflect its wider focus.
"Our name change captures the dynamic nature of the transformation underway, while reaffirming our commitment to unbiased research and cross-industry collaboration," Hamm said.
SEPA is one of two major national groups representing the solar industry. The other is the Solar Energy Industries Association. http://bit.ly/1RBN0ID
